We will be sharing exciting class news and pictures of things we’ve done on this page during the year! Keep checking back to keep up to date with our news (curriculum letters for parents) and to see some pictures of our learning! Above you can see photographs of us on our spring term mini-beast hunt!
Summer term topic:
This term we are learning all about the landscape around us in a topic called 'Urban Pioneers'. We have been using Google maps to find our location and measure the distance to our nearest cities. As Artists we drew silhouette of London's skyline using oil pastels and learnt about the famous buildings. As Reporters we interviewed Reverend Sarah from All Saints Church and asked her about the history of the Church and local area taking notes as she spoke. As Scientists we are learning about light and dark and which materials allow light to pass through them and which don't, creating a shadow. In PE we are learning how to play cricket and also doing athletics, ready for our Sports Day!
Sports Relief 2016
Heron class were delighted to meet GB hockey star Shona McCallin during our Sports Relief celebrations. Shona came in to our classroom (see photo below) answered lots of questions we asked her about hockey, sports and general life! She reminded us to work hard at school and persevere in all that we do! We were really inspired by her visit and some of us now hope to be famous hockey players when we are older!
Spring term topic:
Our class topic was called 'Wriggle and Crawl' in the Spring term. We learnt lots about marvellous mini-beasts! We worked as Scientists drawing food chains and carried out investigations such as how far a snail can travel in one day. As writers we created information fact files, lists and leaflets as well as expressing our creativity through writing poetry and rhymes. As Artists and Designers we drew observational drawings, made models and learning about the origins of food. Animation was our focus in Computing showing how our favourite bugs transform from one to another.
Autumn term topic:
Our Autumn term our topic was 'Tribal Tales'. We were learning to become historians by finding out about what life was like thousands of years ago during the Stone age. We developed our skills as scientists by looking at how materials change over time, especially when they are buried under the ground. In DT we will be designed an outdoor shelter and useful tools for the fictional character Stig from our class book 'Stig of the Dump' by Clive King. We also made Stonehenge models out of cheesy puffs! You can see the photographs of us making our models below.
