Welcome to Foundation Class!

Mr Thrift - Class Teacher

A Great Week in Foundation!

We have had another great week in Foundation! The children continue to try their best and are doing fantastically. We are so proud of all their hard work and the effort they are putting into their learning.

In phonics, we have learnt 4 new sounds this week: y, w, z and x. These can be tricky ones, but the children are doing really well and showing great perseverance! Please continue to practise their sounds and reading at home. It really does make a big difference and helps to build their confidence.

In our topic learning, we have been exploring The Colour Monster, a wonderful story all about our emotions. We discussed what emotions are and shared some useful strategies to help us when we feel worried or angry. These included taking deep breaths, naming our emotions, talking to someone we trust and walking away from a situation for a little while if we need some space. We also talked about the things that make us feel happy. The children had so many lovely ideas to share, and it was wonderful to hear all about the things that bring them joy!

In maths, we have been learning about circles and triangles. We practised describing these shapes using mathematical vocabulary such as corners, straight sides, round and curved. We also learnt that circles and triangles are 2D shapes because they are flat.

Well done, Foundation, for another fantastic week of learning! You have all worked so hard, and we hope you have a wonderful half term. Enjoy a well-deserved rest, and we look forward to seeing you all again soon!
