    Foundation Class Update

What a fantastic week we have had in Foundation!

This week, the children have continued to impress us with their enthusiasm for learning. In phonics, we have learnt four new sounds: c, k, u and b. The children have been working hard to sound out and blend CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words using the sounds they have learnt so far. Some children have also continued working with their Set 2 blending books to further develop their confidence and fluency with previously learnt sounds.

A huge thank you for all the reading you are doing at home. Regular reading practice makes such a difference, and it is wonderful to see the progress the children are making. They are also trying really hard with their letter formation. We have been focusing on fine motor skills, pencil control, and correct pencil grip to help prepare them for writing successfully.

In reading, we have continued to enjoy the story Once There Were Giants. The children have loved discussing how they are growing and changing and imagining how one day they may be giants themselves, perhaps even taller than their parents and carers!

In maths, we have been exploring repeating patterns through a variety of fun activities, including building with blocks, potato printing, actions, and sounds. The children have made great progress with simple ABABAB patterns and have even begun creating more complex patterns such as AABAAB and ABCABC. Why not ask your child to show you a repeating pattern at home this weekend?

Our topic work this week has focused on maps. We discovered a treasure map of our classroom, shown from a bird's-eye view, which led us to some exciting treasure! The children loved making their own treasure maps during free play. We also explored a range of different maps, including maps of the world, our classroom, and even our bodies. Using Google Maps, we looked at our local area, identifying places such as the school, church, and river. We then went on a local walk to see if we could spot the features we had found on our maps.

The children continue to be an absolute pleasure to teach. They are full of imagination, creativity, and enthusiasm, making every day lots of fun.

Have a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday.
