Helpful Information

Reading Books

Children are expected to read their reading book three times before moving on to the next book. This is because each read serves a different purpose. The initial read of a new book allows the child time to blend any unfamiliar words, and this read is often slower and less fluent. The second read allows for the child to read more fluently, hopefully remembering any words they struggled with the previous read. Finally, the third read allows the child to fully comprehend what they have read, now that they have been able to read quickly and fluently without blending.

Reading books will be changed on Tuesdays to allow enough time for this process to be followed. Books will not be changed unless an adult has recorded three reads of the book within the yellow reading record
